Scotland’s Chief Statistician has recently published a report providing information on crimes and offences recorded by the police in which a firearm was alleged to have been involved. 

Police have warned over the number of guns in Scotland with figures revealing that there are over 277,000 guns in Scotland with at least 90,000 firearms deactivated.

The new legislation licensing airguns will fall short in tackling the criminal misuse of the weapons according to a spokesman from the Scottish Police. 

Figures released by the European Commission have shown that in the EU as a whole, more than one thousand people are victims of homicide by firearms each year, and half a million firearms that have been registered as lost or stolen in the EU remain unaccounted for.
