Edinburgh man jailed for speeding

An Edinburgh man has been convicted by a jury of causing death by dangerous driving, reports the BBC.

Darren Luke was found to have been driving at 70 mph in the 40 mph zone near Maybury roundabout when the incident occurred in March last year.

The victim, Billy Casement, was a good friend of Luke's and was a passenger in the car at the time.

The accident happened when Luke drove at speed on the wrong side of the road and crashed into another car and a van.

In sentencing Luke to three years imprisonment, High Court judge, Lord Brodie made it clear that the drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the collision had not been responsible in any way for the accident, reports the BBC.

Luke, who had apparently received a previous conviction for speeding ten years ago, also received a five year driving ban.
